The applications of nano-chemicals as they related to upstream oil and gas industry are provided and where the current state-of-the-art is in high-performance oil well completion, production enhancement, and reservoir management materials are evaluated.
1- Nanotechnologies related to productivity enhancement and well stimulation:
Smart NanoMax fluids developed by MPSC have been utilized as a solution for enhancing wells productivity that increases the production rate. This novel technology contains nanoparticles which are 3-10 nm in size and are able to penetrate deep in the reservoir where traditional particles do not reach. Smart NanoMax chemicals have shown effectiveness in removing / inhibiting organic formation damage, tailored metal-oxide nanoparticles that don’t break down unlike surfactants, and long-term wettability alteration for improved hydrocarbon recovery.
2- Nanotechnologies related to water shutoff conformance and control:
MPSC water shutoff conformance and control lead to better conformance in the reservoir as well as blocking the unwanted water production zones. It’s able to close the paths of least resistance in front of the water by reducing their permeability to prevent the water from coming to the wellbore through them. Also, they aid in forcing the water to mobilize and displace the oil in the reservoir. In other words, the aim is to block the open features and high permeability channels to force water to go toward the harder path to sweep oil from the matrix rock that results in higher overall economical returns than producing oil from fractures.
3- Nanotechnologies related to EOR:
MPSC Nanotechnologies products can significantly benefit enhanced oil recovery (EOR), with advantages such as wettability alternation, changes in fluid properties, improving the trapped oil mobility, enhancing the consolidation of sands and decreasing the interfacial tension (IFT). Nanomaterials are novel alternative methods to be applied as new EOR techniques and solve residual oil problems in heavy and semi-heavy oil reservoirs.
4- Nanotechnologies related to asphaltene removal:
The problems associated with asphaltene deposition generate significant production loss and involve expensive corrective measures. The deposition of asphaltenes greatly reduces the productivity of the affected wells, and in some cases stops the well from flowing after a complete plugging of production column, it may also obstruct surface production facilities. There are different methods help on asphaltene removal, MPSC Nanotechnologies innovative solutions can help to overcome this problem on petrochemicals field.
5- Nanotechnologies related to emulsion removal:
Emulsions can create high-pressure drops in flow lines, lead to an increase in demulsifier use, and sometimes cause trips or upsets in wet-crude handling facilities. The problem is usually at its worst during the winter because of lower surface temperatures. These emulsions must be treated to remove the dispersed water and associated inorganic salts to meet crude specifications for transportation, storage, and export and to reduce corrosion and catalyst poisoning in downstream processing facilities. MPSC Nanotechnologies products/solutions can help to overcome this problem on petrochemicals field.
6- Nanotechnologies related to wax and paraffin dispersal:
Various means for removing paraffin wax have been utilized. MPSC smart nano chemicals has been used to contact the paraffin and form a dispersible material that is removed with an aqueous liquid and a surfactant. Other solvents and dispersants such as copolymer of a primary alcohol and ethylene oxide with sodium silicate and N-substituted succinimide ethers have been tried. MPSC has produced nanotechnologies products to overcome this problem in oil & gas industries.
7- Nanotechnologies related to Lubricant for coal tubing and drilling operation:
With MPSC nanotechnology, our unique formulation creates the ultimate drilling lubricant specifically designed to stay active longer while yielding measurable results. Industry leading “pipe on pipe” and formation adhesion chemistry. MPSC Lubricant is reducing the coefficient of friction (CoF) by up to 98%. The extreme reduction of the CoF is through the creation of a Tribofilm, interactions between chemical components of the lubricant and the surface (pipe or formation), ultimately forming a very strong micro ball bearing effect on a molecular level. Our goal is to be the leading Premium Drilling and Coil Tubing Plug Drillout Lubricant / Pipe on Pipe technology in every application we invited in, delivering real and measurable results.
8- Nanotechnologies related to sand control:
Smart NanoSand control has been utilized as a solution for unconsolidated sand production or proppant flowback in wells. This material produces in-situ metallic bonding oxidation reaction promoting grain-to-grain sand bonding in the near wellbore zone. Smart NanoSand Control has many features such as ability to work up to 1,220 °F, effective on a wide range of particles, doesn’t require high closure stresses, 100 % polymer / resin free, and compatible with the formation fluids.
9- Nanotechnologies related to Condensate Removal:
MPSC provides new smart nano chemical treatments for removing the condensate banking using Nanochemicals & thermochemical solutions. The accumulation of liquid condensates around the production well can significantly impair the gas flow rate. Generally, these reservoirs have two disadvantages: First, a large volume of valuable condensate remains in the reservoir which cannot be removed. Second, the condensate bank decreases the effective permeability of the gas and well productivity. These Chemicals when injected in the wellbore, can react at downhole and generate in situ pressure and heat in certain conditions. with a reduction in a surface tension and IFT. The generated pressure can raise the gas reservoir pressure above the dew point curve, and the generated heat can change the phase of the liquid condensate to gas. These novel treatments show that they can remove the condensate damage for different types of tight sandstones.

Calcium carbonate, calcium sulphate, barium sulphate, and strontium sulphate are the most frequent oilfield scales. As a result, scale inhibitor manufacturers are continually exploring new solutions to improve their products.
5- Nanotechnologies related to tight emulsion:
Often formed during the purification of products, especially when intimate contact between hydrocarbon and aqueous phases is involved. Liquid solutions or solvents can be entrained by the main hydrocarbon product, forming tight emulsions and dispersions which are difficult to separate and are often discarded as effluents to the wastewater treatment unit. On the other hand, entrainment of these liquid solvents could potentially affect product specifications or cause operational upsets in downstream processes. emulsions and dispersions can be separated by coalescence. The tightness of an emulsion can be measured in terms of its interfacial tension. With MPSC Nanotechnologies innovative solutions this problem can be solved.
6- Nanotechnologies related to asphaltene and tar solvent:
The solubility of MPSC asphaltene solvents increase with the increasing in aromatic contents. As a result, our solvents based on xylene and toluene are used to dissolve asphaltene deposits in both the wellbore and formation. These nano chemicals inhibit the deposition of asphaltene by breaking the precipitate into smaller particle sizes, which can remain in suspension in the oil phase. Our engineered de-asphaltened oil is a strong solvent for asphaltene because of its native resin and aromatic contents. In the reservoir, once asphaltene deposition causes formation damage, it reduces oil production. MPSC developed different types of solvents which undertaking the consideration of the effects of pressure, temperature, and oil composition changes on asphaltene precipitation and deposition and its influence on EOR performance.
